Second Great Lesson. Life Comes to Earth!

Please note: The Lessons of creation that are presented here are in accordance with  current scientific discoveries and the knowledge that we have today.  I have tried in the best of my ability to present these lessons with Islamic perspective. Second Great Lesson

Life Comes to Earth

This lesson can be presented in 2-3 days.

Teacher usually tells the great lessons without reading it from the paper. Also all the items for the presentation are covered with cloth and teacher uncovers each item during the story. 

Now it’s time for the second Great Lesson!

As we learned in the first great lesson the Earth was just a hot boiling ball in the beginning which cooled down over time and became very rocky planet with water covering most of its surface.

Now something amazing started happening in the Earth’s oceans and it was a tiny life appearing. It was so tiny and invisible which was not possible to see. That tiny life that Allah has created was the Earth’s first bacteria. 

1) Show Children images of bacteria.

This bacteria existed in the Earth’s ocean for a very very long time and after millions of years a blue green bacteria called blue-green algae began to live in some parts of the ocean.

This bacteria was so amazing because it figured out how to make food for itself.

It took three things:

1) sunlight

2) water from the ocean

3) carbon dioxide which was the gas plentiful in the air at that time.

Now we call this process photosynthesis.

The blue green- algae started producing a special kind of gas which became the start of the Earth’s Atmosphere.  This special gas is called oxygen.

Many sea plants and creatures appeared in the ocean such as sponges, sea lilies, worms and more.

2) Show Children pictures or real specimens of sponges and worms. Pictures of sea lilies.

Just imagine how from one tiny bacteria the other things started appearing on Earth. By Allah’s perfect plan the life started appearing on our beautiful planet.

Age of Trilobites

One day a new amazing creature appeared in the Earth’s ocean which had a very strong outer shell called exoskeleton.

This creature was different sizes and some crawled while other swam. This new creature was an animal called trilobite.

Trilobites existed on Earth for a very long time and we call it an Age of Trilobites.

By the will of Allah and the reasons only known to Him, the Trilobites became extinct.
3) Show Children pictures or models of Trilobites. Find books about Trilobites and videos on Youtube. 

Age of Fish

But then another amazing creature appeared in the ocean and it was a very special creature because it had a set of bone which is called skeleton. It was the first creature with backbone means it was vertebrate.

That creature was Earth’s first Fish

4) Show children pictures of the Fish or a bring a real fish to the class to observe. 
Use Montessori Fish puzzle to learn about parts of the fish. 

While the ocean now became filled with all kinds of fish something amazing been happening on the Earth’s land. Some of the blue-green algae found its way to attach to the land and turned into plants that were able to live outside the water.

Many different kinds of plants began to develop on Earth.  

Then another creature appeared on land. This creature had a thorax, abdomen and antennae but no backbone. We call creatures without backbone invertebrates.

This creature was the Earth’s first insect

4) Show children specimen or model of the insect. Learn about parts of the insect.


The Earth was now full of all kinds of plants and insects.

Then another amazing creature developed. 

Some of the fish had huge fins and over long period of time these fins turned into little legs and this creature figured its way out of the ocean and possibly found insects to eat, so it adopted itself and started living on land and in the water.

5) Show children a real frog or model of a frog. Use puzzles, make crafts, read books about amphibians to children.

We call these kinds of creatures amphibians

Now while all this was happening in the land and water some changes were happening to the Earth.

The land had broken into two giant continents which drifted along in the Ocean.  But one day those continents bumped into another and made one supercontinent called Pangaea. The land crumbled up at that bump and it created a mountain range which still exists today in Russia. 

6) Show a map of Russia to find the mountain range.

Many kinds of plants were growing on Earth and one of those special plants were ferns of many kinds.

7)Show children pictures or specimens of ferns and show a real coal.

When fern forest died it created layers and layers of soil. The ferns at the bottom layer turned into a black rock which humans use today for heat and energy. This type of rock called Coal.

Then another fascinating creature appeared on Earth which was a reptile.

Age of Reptiles and Dinosaurs

By the will of Allah the reptiles at that time grew so much bigger and bigger that they became completely gigantic and those gigantic reptiles were the dinosaurs, which existed for a very long time and became extinct by the will of Allah.

7)Show Children models of dinosaurs, fossils, books, and any other interesting items about dinosaurs.

Later on more things appeared on Earth such as beautiful blooming flowers, butterflies, birds and mammals.

9) Show Children real flower plant, pictures or specimens of butterflies and birds.

Mammals became plentiful on Earth and we call that time Age of Mammals.

At this time also the Earth’s supercontinent broke apart into Laurasia and Gondwanaland.

Those two continents also broke apart and drifted on the Earth’s ocean. After millions of years these supercontinents formed seven new continents that we have today.

Now the Earth was filled with all kinds of creatures and all kinds of plants.

We can see how Allah, The Most Merciful, has gradually prepared the Earth for the most special creature to come, which is human being.

And we learn about it in the next Lesson.
